Ludwig Van Beethoven Was Born - 976 Words

Ludwig van Beethoven was born, â€Å"in a small-ish German Rhineland city of Bonn in 1769, 1770, and 1772 (it was characteristic of his singularity to be born not once but thrice). The first Ludwig was indeed born in 1769, but, like so many children of that time, expired within a week. The second-of the same parentage-followed some twenty months later, born (probably) on December 16, 1770, and baptized (certainly) the following day; and the third never really existed, save in the lifelong confusion of Ludwig the second† (Siepmann 2006 p. 3) Beethoven had always been unsure of his age so he had asked multiple acquaintances of his as he grew older for information in regards to his birth, yet, every time a person had produced proof of his birth; Beethoven refuted the evidence. â€Å"If Beethoven had trouble with his age, others, including some who knew him, seemed to have trouble with his names† (Siepmann p. 4). Beethoven was referred to by many names throughout his lifeti me, â€Å"he was known variously as Ludwig, Louis, Luis, and Luigi, thereby embracing four nationalities, while his family name appears from time to time as Betthoven, Bethofen, even Bephoven, with ‘van’ often being exchanged for ‘von’ (Siepmann p. 4) Sir Beethoven didn’t exactly have the easiest of upbringing nor did he have a very comfortable living in his very own household.
